The Table Service
On October 7, 2018, Kingwood Christian Church followed God into a new chapter in our ongoing story. After over a year of prayer and planning, we created “The Table” service, a unique, authentic, and inclusive worshiping community. The Table is a fresh expression of our collective heart and calling to be an “open and inclusive faith community committed to learning and practicing the teachings of Jesus.” At Kingwood Christian Church, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, where everyone is welcome, included, and celebrated as an image-bearer of God.

"We were hopeful about KWCC when we heard the Welcome Statement in The Table service but wondered if those values would really be lived out. When our Queer family arrived for worship, we were welcomed warmly and invited to participate fully! KWCC lives out its values and has shown genuine love and support for my family.”

Communion
Communion is central to our understanding of church and worship and offered weekly. Regardless of membership or background, newcomer or long-timer, ALL who gather are welcome to share in this sacred remembrance of Christ.
At The Table, we come forward to receive communion.

What to expect at the Table
- The Table is a laid-back, down-to-earth, spiritually led worship service.
- A typical Table service is about 50 minutes.
- Sermons with both scriptural foundation and real-life application.
- Shared leadership among men and women, of all ages, ordained ministers and volunteer laypersons.
- Come as you are, there's no dress code or judgement. Shorts, t-shirt, flipflops, no judgement.
"KWCC guided my faith journey and helped me develop leadership skills in my youth. Then they embraced my multiethnic family in adulthood. Now my children are also developing faith and leadership in and through KWCC."

Building The Table
I received the request from the New Service Planning Committee in July for a round communion table. I looked at the target population for the new service and I tried to come up with a design that spoke to some of the values and goals that this church espouses. Those being Radical welcome, love not judgement and especially everyone, and I mean, by God, everyone is welcome at The Table.
I tried to show the diversity in membership to which we aspire. To that end, I used several different species of wood for the twelve panels in the table. There are panels made of quarter sawn white oak, walnut, cherry, pecan, mahogany, cedar, leopardwood and zebrawood. Several of the panels show signs of some of the adversity they have faced, much like some of our members. Some of the panels are a little rough around the edges, just like some of our members. Some of the panels have been broken and pieced back together, like some of our members. Some of the panels have been burned (at church?), just like some of our members. Some of the panels were damaged by Harvey, like some of our members. Some of the panels appear undamaged, just like some of our members.
I have put all these different types of panels together to make one table that I hope, with God's help, is beautiful and meaningful, just like our congregation.
