Kingwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in 1977 when a group of interested families responded to an ad in the local newspaper about the organization of a Disciples of Christ church in the Humble/Kingwood area. Thirty people gathered in the Forest Cove home of Frank and Joyce Coupal on Sunday, May 1, 1977, and Kingwood Christian Church was born. At the time, Kingwood was in its infancy, and the nearest Disciples of Christ congregation was 30 miles away. Services were first held in the Woodland Hills community room and then at Woodland Hills Elementary, where every chair, table, and hymnal had to be loaded and unloaded into a trailer for worship each Sunday. In 1983, our first building, a multi-purpose metal building was completed. Completion of our current sanctuary on West Lake Houston Parkway was finished in 2001. Many of the original members are still an active part of the KWCC family today.
Communionis central to our understanding of church and worship and offered weekly. Regardless of membership or background, newcomer or long-timer, ALL who gather are welcome to share in this sacred remembrance of Christ. At the traditions service, we serve one another by passing communion trays as we are seated.
