Youth Mission Trips
"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40.
CYF Mission Trip is an annual journey taken in the summer for a week to join in a mission project to serve others and build community for the coming year. Recent trips have been to a Habitat build in Greeley, Colorado, and Katrina/Rita rebuilding in Gulfport, Mississippi. This trip allows us to put our learning into action and is highlighted by nightly worship at the end of long days. We always plan a fun day (and several fun moments present themselves through the week) while we are away. We grow a lot individually and as a group as we get our hands dirty each summer.
Summer 2008 CYF Trip is July 19-26, Albuquerque, NM. We will be joined by First Christian Church Katy and will be planning and leading a Vacation Bible School program for another Disciples Church without the resources and manpower to do so on their own. We will also be working a few mornings doing some housing rehabilitation and clean-up in the area as well as doing some sightseeing and playing throughout the week. Registration Deadline: June 29.
Chi-Rho Mission Trip is a journey much like the CYF trip, but only lasts for a few days each summer. These trips are usually shorter distances from home than the CYF trips and provide a first opportunity for Chi-Rho youth to gain experience in a servant's role. The labor is not usually as intense, though the fun is often comparable, and the worhsip as sincere. Past trips have been to Plano and San Antonio.
Summer 2008 Chi-Rho Trip is August 12-16, San Antonio, TX. This year we will work with the San Antonio Food Bank. We will be serving there in the mornings and a couple of other places in the afternoon. This trip is designed for an entry level experience for younger youth, but is service oriented. Any youth going into 6th through 8th grade is encouraged to come. Registration Deadline: July 18.
