KCC Question of the Week

Below is something called The Question of the Week. It is simply an attempt to take a question that was asked directly or indirectly by someone in the congregation and give a response. The response is intended to be the beginning of dialogue and not the end. Thanks for asking, reading the responses, and responding to the responses you read. If you have a question for future consideration, send it as a response to this email.

Here's the Question of the Week:

Sunday November 6th seems like a wild and crazy day around the congregation. What is happening exactly?

Here’s an Attempt at a Response:

It seems wild in crazy indeed. But in a good way, I trust. Who knows what will happen exactly until it happens, but this is my best sense of things as I sit here on Wednesday afternoon.

The tagline for the stewardship challenge as we move toward 2012 is "Giving Thanks for the Past, Present, and Future". The scriptural passage is from the prophet Jeremiah chapter 29: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

This spirit will be on display in multiple ways on Sunday the 6th.

For one thing, as we move into November, we will be celebrating our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon after worship.

Also, during worship we will be giving thanks for the beloved people who have gone to glory before us in the past during our annual recognition of All Saints.

Yet our thanks are for God's blessing in the present as well. One symbolic way this will be seen is through our first "Reverse Offering". We will select a ministry or group that cares for the vulnerable and give thanks to God for their work by blessing them with $250. Currently the Reverse Offering is scheduled to happen every Sunday through the end of the year. It is funded by an above and beyond gift to the congregation.

And, on a much more well-known note, a note that is gloriously moving from the future into the present, we will seek God's blessing for the newly-renovated Fellowship Hall during the Thanksgiving Luncheon. It appears that the new flooring will be completely in place by Friday, so that'll be a sight to see. Come and check it out!

The future is not left out on the 6th, of course. It is, after all, the day we will begin officially collecting financial pledge cards for 2012. So, we will each have a chance to say with our resources that we give thanks to God for the future the Lord is making with us as Kingwood Christian Church.

I hope you can be a part of it all.

Anyway, thanks for the question.

Peace in Christ,

Robert

Previous Questions of the Week

At the quarterly congregational town hall meeting on September 25th, I heard that a proposal for handling grievances was shared. Could it be shared, so that people not in attendance last Sunday can have a chance to see it?

Why isn't the American Flag in the Sanctuary?

Why don't the Co-Pastors put anything in the collection plate?

Is Kingwood Christian Church’s campus going to be the site of a counseling ministry? If so, what is it about?

I'm trying to get a sense of how to respond to someone who says things like "church is just 100% a social club" and "I don't have to go to church to be religious."

I like Jesus but am not too comfy with the whole "organized religion" thing. What to do?

I'm trying to get a sense of how to respond to someone who says things like "church is just 100% a social club" and "I don't have to go to church to be religious."

How many generations have there been since Adam?

I've noticed that during the collection of the offering during worship on Sundays the Co-pastors don't put anything in the offering plate. Can you explain this?
