Saturday Yoga Classes at KWCC

Time: 8:30 am Saturdays in Choir Room (come a little early the first time to fill out a short questionnaire)
What to bring: yoga mat/supplies if you have them (not required)
What to wear: comfortable clothes that allow you to stretch and bend
Cost: $10 for a drop in class or $20 for a 4-class pass
Instructors: Kandi O'Malley and Robert Reynolds, Cerified yoga instructor/therapist

Whole Health Living is pleased to offer a beginning Hatha Yoga Class at the church this summer. The origins of Hatha Yoga can be traced back nearly 5000 years. In Sanskrit "Ha" means Sun, "Tha" means Moon and "Yoga" means Yoke. Hatha Yoga means to join (yoke) the physical (sun) and spiritual (moon) to work in union. Using a set of proven exercises the body and spirit learn to work together, enriching health and happiness.

The practice consists of a sequence of physical poses or postures called asanas in conjunction with controlled breathing techniques called pranayama. The asanas (postures) improve skeletal alignment, muscular strength/tone, internal body systems (endocrine, cardiac, neural), balance and flexibility. Pranayama (breathing) reduces stress/anxiety and improves concentration.

Hatha Yoga is a tool: when used regularly it leads to wholeness of body and spirit to enrich the life experience. Many say that yoga has increased their attentiveness and presence not only to their own bodies but also to the world…and to God…around them. May our awareness of God within us and near us continue to grow!

Anyone can practice hatha yoga. Whole Health Living teaches the poses utilizing modifications and props such as chairs, blankets and straps, to enable anyone to be successful and experience the benefits of hatha yoga practice. They are specially trained in yoga therapy techniques and many different styles of yoga. If you have any questions, please come before practice and speak with the instructor. See you there!
