KCC Ministry Outreach - My Kingwood Therapist

Effective September 1, 2011, Kingwood Christian Church will be collaborating in ministry with Joni Adams to provide mental health services to the Kingwood and surrounding communities. These services are not intended to duplicate pastoral care or biblical based counseling provided by the KCC co-pastors but are intentionally designed to augment the co-pastors' abilities by providing professional diagnostic evaluation, counseling and community resource referrals.

Joni, the co-pastors and a group of dedicated counseling Kingwood Christian Church committee members are working together to develop resourceful relationships with other area mental health professionals for the care of individuals within the community. In addition to fundraising efforts to provide services to those who may not otherwise be able to afford treatment, monthly pro bono sessions are provided by Kingwood Psychotherapy and Assessment Center, PLLC to KCC church members and are utilized by the co-pastors to provide services to individuals who may benefit from a confidential mental health evaluation.

Services offered by Kingwood Psychotherapy & Assessment Center, PLLC will include

• Diagnostic interviews
• Individual counseling
• Mental health assessments
• Individualized treatment planning
• Mental health referral services to other appropriate and competent professionals, as needed
• Free 15 minute initial phone consultation

Joni Adams is considered an out of network provider for health insurance benefits; however, if a client would like to use their current health insurance, Joni will provide all the necessary information for the client to provide to their health care provider. Most individuals are reimbursed a portion, if not all, of their session fee, depending on the insurance company and the specifics of the individual's mental health coverage.

Note: Members of Kingwood Christian Church receive a 20% discount on all services or pay the full published fee and have 20% of that fee donated to the KCC Counseling Ministry Fund to help in providing services to those individuals who may not be able to afford treatment.

Fees: Initial Session / Diagnostic Interview $125

Individual Therapy (after first session) $95 per session

Mental Health Testing and Assessments Varies, depending on the extent of testing and report writing requirements

Joni Adams Bio

Joni Adams is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  She has over fourteen years of mental health related experience evaluating and treating adults, children and adolescents in a variety of therapeutic settings including therapeutic communities, nursing homes, emergency shelters, private practice, respite care, church campuses and academic settings.  

Joni specializes in mental health assessments including diagnostic interviews, personality testing and ADHD assessments.  She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston-Victoria with a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology.  Joni Adams is also a Texas State Board of Examiners approved Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and able to provide individuals who hold a temporary license with the required supervision necessary to obtain their full license.  

Joni has facilitated several workshops at annual professional conferences including ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment Planning (TNOYS, Austin, Texas), Solution Focused Therapy (TNOYS, Austin, Texas), Team Building (Victoria College, Victoria, Texas) and Building Self-Esteem in Children (Victoria College, Victoria, Texas).
